Sarah & Stewart | Winter wedding at Matfen Hall
This beautiful winter wedding at Matfen Hall was my last wedding of 2019, and WHAT A WAY to end a absolutely brilliant year!
What was your favourite part of your wedding at Maften Hall?
Oh too many to choose from! I really loved our first dance in the Great Hall, and it was great seeing the floor filled with all of our family and friends dancing! And the sparklers in the Cloisters courtyard was fun…once we managed to light them all!
What personal or DIY touches did you add to make the day a little more ‘you’?
Stewart’s gran – who is 95! – made the fruit cake we cut on the day, which perfectly complimented our amazing and delicious cheese cake from Blacks Corner; she thought she was making us a Christmas cake and we didn’t tell her until the day that we would be cutting her cake!
Why did you choose your venue?
With my family and friends in London and Stewart’s in the North East, we looked at venues in both locations. Once we saw Matfen Hall, I knew we couldn’t get married anywhere else, especially with a winter wedding date! We wanted a country hall setting, and Matfen was glamorous and beautiful, tastefully decorated and their seriously professional wedding department impressed us. Nothing on the day was too much, and we loved every minute of being there. Oh and the wedding breakfast- honestly the best wedding food we’ve ever had!
How did you find using Andy Hudson Photography?
It was important to us to use local suppliers for our wedding and Andy is one of Matfen Hall’s recommenced suppliers. Sarah spent several months following potential photographers on Instagram, and got a good feel for Andy from this and his website. From our initial Skype chat, Stewart and I felt comfortable and at ease talking to him, and it was important to us that he had worked at the venue previously. Throughout the wedding Andy was relaxed and open to our requests and we trusted that he knew what would work best for the photos that we wanted. He made us feel so relaxed and our photos really capture that, as well as sharing a lot of laughs with him during the day!
We love our photos! Andy perfectly captured the day and all the natural moments we might have otherwise missed!
If you were doing it all again what would be the one bit of advice you’d give yourself at the start of the planning process?
Stay a second night at the venue if you can and get a late check out! And find suppliers you like working with, for us Andy definitely felt more like a guest than a supplier!
